YEAH! weddings

ngaio + julian 07.21.14
Let's talk for a minute about how much we here at YEAH! love Ngaio and Julian. These two stylish lovebirds live in Australia but invited all their closest family + friends to fly to one of their favorite cities in the world -- Los Angeles -- to get hitched on the rooftop of the Ace Hotel. Their colorful "California dreaming" inspired wedding was brought to life by our crazy talented friends at Bash Please, and Ngaio (an amazing graphic designer in her own right) designed all the paper goods with the LA sunset in mind.

I was lucky enough to fly to Sydney this year to hang out with Ngaio and Julian (who have become my good friends since!) and incorporated their love of double exposure imagery into their wedding day. It resulted in some fun, creative photography which you'll see below.

But for this music obsessed couple, the real highlight was the epic dance party DJ'd by Michael Antonia from The Flashdance. I think Ngaio's words sum it up best:

"Getting married was pretty amazing, but three of our favourite moments all revolve around music. The first, walking into the reception and hearing Michael playing one of my favourite songs in the world (without ever knowing it was my favourite). The second, the surprised looks and raucous reception to our well-rehearsed Jive dance to Little Willie John's I'm Shakin (and relief we remembered all the steps!). Julian and I both agree though that the best moment was looking out over our non-stop dance floor to see our most beloved friends and family (most of whom are spread over the globe and had never met each other) all dancing together covered in crazed smiles and confetti!"

You can read more about their wedding on 100 Layer Cake, too!

melissa + matt // the photos! part 1 06.10.14
we have been wanting to share melissa + matt's wedding with the world for a while, but we had to wait a few months so that it could be published in this little magazine called martha stewart weddings (more on that in part 2...)

everything about their LA wedding was super unique and the production value was so impressive, especially considering it was 100% DIY. m+m had so many great details and extremely thoughtful themes and ideas that were carried throughout the whole wedding, like: escort cards that they wrote personalized messages on to each and every friend -- all 220 of them! -- paper airplanes (a nod to when they dated long distance and had to fly back and forth to see each other), temporary tattoos, straws for the drinks with funny sayings ("I'm not drunk," "I'm single", "this is water"), a custom neon sign, an amazing s'mores cake by the one and only heirloom la, mid-century lounge furniture provided by YEAH! rentals, and the most detailed / super rad backdrop for a ceremony EVER that matt's brother hand-drew with stats about each of them.

when we created YEAH! weddings we always had dream clients like melissa + matt in mind, and likewise, they planned their wedding with us in mind. they are in every way the ambassadors of YEAH! and we now consider them some of our good friends. this wedding was a culmination of everything we love and we couldn't be happier to have been a part of it!

melissa + matt // the photos! part 2 06.10.14
since we knew this wedding was special, we wanted to share it with as many people as we could, and luckily the editors at Martha Stewart Weddings felt the same. you can see a two page spread in their summer 2014 issue featuring the best of DIY weddings, on newsstands now!
the second half of m + m's wedding was equally mindblowing. the smilebooth got rushed by guests crazed about ryan gosling, and the dance party went OFF thanks to our very own dj mike cruz from the flashdance, matt's brother sung a personalized rap during the reception, and then matt broke out into a surprise flash mob and made melissa a weeping mess.

below are some more photos of their reception. we really do feel like we won the client lottery with these two, and all of us at YEAH! would do their wedding again every year if we could!
